Our Review

Founded in 2013 and known before as GHS Interactive Security, Vio Home Security has help from industry vet Steve Baker of ADT to help them forge ahead. Based in California and offering their services and equipment nationwide, Vio Home Security encourages customers to create customized packages instead of choosing from pre-made ones.

Although this takes more time, we find that customers can save hundreds of dollars a year if they’re already aware of their needs and don’t purchase the equipment they don’t need. For instance, if you don’t have pets or children, an indoor security camera may not be as necessary compared to an outdoor one. If you’ve heard of recent break-ins in your neighborhood, you know it’s time to invest in extra motion detectors and alarms.

Products & Services

Products & Services:

Vio Home Security offers residential and commercial security services as well as smart home equipment and video monitoring. Unlike many other home security companies, they don’t list tiered packages on their website and instead offer a monthly starting price for their base package. To customize your security package, you’ll need to call and talk with a representative.

However, they offer descriptions of the services and equipment you can enjoy by becoming a customer. Every custom package comes with 24/7 monitoring over an encrypted network so that your privacy is ensured. The Vio Security app allows you to have direct, remote control over all your devices no matter where you are.

We liked the fact that the Vio Security app is highly customizable so you can determine the devices, alerts, and notifications you want to see. By grouping the devices you frequently use together, you can easily activate or deactivate them with a single tap.

Residential

Since all of Vio Home Security’s plans are customizable, you’ll need to call the company and speak with a representative to determine the equipment you need. However, you can expect at least a monthly cost of $29.99.

Features:

  • 24/7 Monitoring
  • Wireless Installation
  • Vio App Smart Control
  • Outdoor Cameras
  • Indoor Cameras
  • Smart Panel
  • Safety Sensors
  • Motion Sensors

Commercial

Like the Residential service that Vio Home Security offers, you’ll need to call and speak with a customer service representative to customize your security service and receive a quote. You’ll enjoy 24/7 monitoring over an encrypted network and access to smart add-ons that allow you to manage your business’s energy consumption efficiently.

We liked that Vio Home Security offers these smart solutions alongside their security platform, as this makes it easier for business owners to automate their businesses fully. Vio also offers flexible monitoring solutions depending on your needs and budget. These range from cellular, broadband-internet, and landline.

  • 24/7 Monitoring

Although you’ll need to call the Vio Home Security Company team and talk with a representative about equipment and package pricing, the $29.99 a month minimum fee is in line with average monthly monitoring prices in the industry.

Savings Opportunities

Vio Home Security offers a digital referral program that rewards customers for referring their friends and family. If the person you refer signs up for services, you’ll receive a $100 Visa Gift Card. We found this to be one of the most rewarding referral programs in the industry, as most home security companies will offer discounts instead of cash. There is also no limit to the customers you can refer.

Pros
  • Offers a substantial referral reward for customers
Cons
  • No other discounts listed on the website

Customer Support and Reviews

Customer Support and Reviews:
empty starempty starempty starempty starempty star   3/5

Due to the recent rebranding from GHS Interactive Security to Vio Home Security, we found it difficult to find recent reviews for the company. On Trustpilot, GHS Interactive Security received an average review score of three stars with a mixture of excellent and poor reviews. The mix of revies is common in the industry because people are motivated to leave a review when their experience is very good or very bad, so we believe an average review score is fair.

Many negative reviews came from people who had alarm systems that weren’t working and didn’t feel customer service responded to their issues promptly. Sales associates also weren’t transparent about the full cost of replacing equipment.

Although many people found issues dealing with customer service on the phone, there was an equal number of people who found that their interactions with the technicians were positive. Customers personally thank the technicians who helped them in a patient and professional manner.

GHS is better than other companies because of its people-field technicians, not the management. The techs, Anthony V. in particular, are the only people we see from GHS. His ability to communicate, listen, research, solve and express appreciation to the clients is refreshing. Anthony is a perfect example of what any company looks for, wants and strives for in order to increase its success in business. For, without the customers, which are GHS’s #1 Asset, there is no business. Perhaps periodic calls should be made to customers to check on the system and services, and not assume all is well unless the customer calls.

System monitoring and reporting is excellent. We have had problems communicating with the office and getting service at our home. we had all new replacement windows installed, so are in need of new sensors on all windows. It has been two weeks since my first phone inquiry phone call, and we still do not have a satisfactory solution. Office communication seems to need improvement.

We have had GHS since February 2018. The service is good, customer service when you can reach them is great. They have certain operational hours, so you don’t have someone live to speak with 24/7 if there is a technical issue with equipment. However as far as being able to secure home and feel safe, they are great and response time is awesome.

Pros
  • Customers are happy with the professional and friendly technicians
Cons
  • Timely communication with customers over the phone is lacking

Company Background

Founded in late 2013 as GHS Interactive Security, the company is now rebranded as Vio while offering the same quality of products and services. With headquarters in southern California, Vio Security offers its security equipment and monitoring services for nationwide customers.

Although it’s a relatively new company compared to the lengthy history of other home security brands, the company was founded by industry vet Steve Baker who had executive roles in well-known companies ADT, Monitronics, and Westec. The company had the help of Honeywell executive Leo Guthart who provided a substantial amount of equity capital to get the company off the ground.

Through a door-knocking sales model, Vio Home Security has seen tremendous growth over the years, and their focus on innovation keeps the company on the leading edge.

Pros
  • Industry vet Steve Baker from ADT is helming this relatively new company
Cons
  • Fairly new home security company without an established history

The Bottom Line

Vio Home Security is a relatively new company coming into the home security industry in 2013. We were impressed by their focus on innovation and the number of smart home products they offer. Businesses and homeowners can benefit from the automated solutions that smart home security offers.

Although packages aren’t listed on the website, you can create a security system that fits your needs and lifestyles by talking with a representative from the company. By not paying for equipment and services that you don’t need, you’ll save yourself hundreds of dollars a year simply by taking the time to customize your services.
