Our Review

Founded in 1859, Brinks Home Security has a long but chaotic history of mergers, acquisitions, and rebranding. However, we believe that the company has found itself in the right place after the former name MONI rebranded its services and licensed the Brinks Home Security name.

Recognized as #1 in customer satisfaction by J.D. Power, numerous customers are happy with the level and efficiency of service they receive to answer any questions, concerns, and issues. Many home security companies have problems with not being transparent about their monthly costs and fees, but we were happy to see that Brinks Home Security is entirely open about their offerings.

Lastly, the integration of Nest equipment and Brinks Home Security 24/7 monitoring helps accommodate customers who are already invested in Google Home products.

Products & Services

Brinks Home Security has three basic, middle, and high-tiered packages that are clearly and concisely listed on the home page of their website. We especially liked that with each package, there are photographs of the equipment that comes with it so that customers know exactly what they’re getting without reading lengthy descriptions or bulleted lists.

Each package comes with its perks and benefits and reveals an understanding of their customer base. For instance, the Essential package comes with DIY installation so that homeowners on a budget don’t need to pay extra for installation.

On the other hand, the Ultimate package has free professional installation, which makes sense for busy homeowners who don’t have the time to install the equipment that comes with the package.

You can purchase the packages directly from the website without needing to call for a quote. You can also customize each package by giving customer service a call, but you can also add over 119 other smart devices to your system whenever you desire.

Customer Support and Reviews

Customer Support & Reviews:

Brinks Home Security has average to positive reviews on several company review sites. We were impressed by the fact that many people who had the Monitronics, or MONI, home security system were just as happy with Brinks after they rebranded.

Many cited how customer service representatives were quick, efficient, and polite if they called with questions or issues with their systems. They’re also ready to answer email if that’s the preferred method of communication.

It’s been great with Brinks. Every time the alarm goes off when the door is opened, I get a notification on the phone. There’s no 45 seconds delay anymore. As soon as the door opens, an alarm is activated. Customer service tried to talk me through whatever issue I had over the phone. I emailed them and they emailed me back. We got through one issue. If we still couldn’t get through it, then they’d send out a tech to take care of the problem. He was knowledgeable about what was going on.

We had just moved into our home and we wanted a home security system. Something came in the mail, and we called and went with Brinks. The installation guy came and did the install, which was very nice. Things went great and we’ve been very pleased with the system until something happened with the thermostat. We didn’t understand what was going on, but we had to just change the setting on the iPad and so far, so good. We really like the feature involving the doors (the front, back or garage door), when any of the doors are open, and we use the app a lot.

Pros
  • Issues and questions are resolved quickly with customer service reps
Cons
  • Company needs to improve the communication of balances owed

Company Background

Brinks Home Security was founded in 1859 as Brink’s City Express. Founder Perry Brink delivered luggage with a horse-drawn carriage for train passengers who needed their heavy luggage taken to hotels.

In 1934 after the Great Depression, they changed their name to Brink’s Incorporated. In 2009, the controversial decision was made to separate the company’s security division and brand it as Broadview Security.

After being acquired in 2018 by Tyco International, Ltd., the company that also owns ADT, the Brinks Home Security name was licensed to a security-based company in Dallas called MONI. Knowing that the Brinks name carried enough authority and history to help the company grow, MONI soon evolved into the Brinks Home Security we see today.

Although the rebranding was fairly recent, Brinks Home Security has already been recognized by J.D. Power in 2019 as #1 in customer satisfaction for two years in a row for pre-installed home security systems.

Pros
  • Brinks Home Security has a long history and well-known brand name
Cons
  • The licensing deal from MONI to Brinks Home Security was relatively recent

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a no-nonsense way to protect your home both inside and out, then Brinks Home Security may be the right choice. Their three-tiered plans and their Nest home security offerings are created for households of all different budget types.

We especially liked that their basic offering comes with DIY installation for people who don’t want to wait for a professional to come into their home. For customers who purchase the Ultimate plan, we also liked the inclusion of free professional installation because of the added burden of additional equipment that can take longer to set up on your own.

Brinks Home Security prices are average for the industry, but the integration of Nest products and other smart home products makes this a system that’s easy to adopt for people who love their Google Assistant.
